The hiatus after the release of their third album in 2008 proved to be a worthy investment in gathering material and experimenting with new beats. On March 22, 2013 at World Trade Center, Manila can expect to be treated to a night of pulsating energy and musical revelation that will challenge their ears while they sing along and dance to the catchy beats.
Bloc Party’s unique style of pulsating guitar echoes and distinct vocal chants from frontman Kele Okereke continue to dominate airwaves and music players, with first single “Octopus” receiving airtime in various Philippines stations. Lead guitarist Russell Lissack is always a force to be reckoned with, and he promptly delivers through experimental riffs in “Truth”, “V.A.L.I.S.” and “Team A”. Gordon Moakes’ bass and synths resonate with haunting fills and ambient echoes, while Matt Tong’s aggressive drum beats provide consistently effective beats to complete the whole package.
This time though, the British band introduces elements of heavy rock anthems and punk sensibilities. With songs such as “3×3”, “We Are Not Good People”, “Kettling” and “So He Begins to Lie”, rock purists stand to enjoy the lineup as well. The new songs have drawn comparisons to Deftones and Glassjaw, spreading the reach of a band already considered one of the major music movements of the mid-2000s. Bloc Party was then discovered by Franz Ferdinand lead singer Alex Kapranos and BBC Radio 1 DJ Steve Lamacq. What followed was worldwide acclaim, with all of their albums receiving recognition across different continents, together with awards to back them up.
The band is a favorite of creative agencies and media practitioners. Collaborations with various brands have resulted in multimedia masterpieces that still continue to be admired up to this day. In line with the respect being accorded Bloc Party by movers of the media industry, peers in the music world look up to them as influence and inspiration for their own works.
Bloc Party’s success does not end there, with plans to continue making wonderful music while at the same time being more active in touring various states around the world. The Philippines is fortunate to be one of the destinations, as local fans have been clamoring for a visit from the band since the early days of their first album.
