Gela Atayde steps into hosting with ‘Time to Dance’

Gela Atayde, the youngest daughter of Sylvia Sanchez and Art Atayde, officially takes center stage as the host of her passion project, ‘Time to Dance’.

The show, a collaboration between ABS-CBN Studios and Nathan Studios, premieres tonight, January 18, across multiple platforms, including Kapamilya Channel, Kapamilya Online Live, and A2Z.

Best known for her acting roles in ‘Senior High’ and ‘High Street’, Gela takes on hosting for the first time in ‘Time to Dance’. Speaking at the media conference held on January 16 at 9501 Restaurant in Quezon City, Gela admitted hosting pushed her out of her comfort zone.

“Hosting was a challenge because I’m not used to public speaking. Acting comes naturally, but hosting made me grow and pushed me to try something new,” she said.

Gela credits her co-host, veteran presenter Robi Domingo, for helping her navigate this new role.

“Every time someone gets eliminated, Gela cries. That’s how much she cares for the contestants,” Robi shared, adding a lighthearted note about the delays caused by her emotional investment.

Gela draws inspiration from her family, particularly her older brother, Quezon City Representative Arjo Atayde. A former member of the dance group Legit Status, Arjo’s skills as a dancer and his encouragement have motivated Gela throughout her career.

In a surprise video message, Arjo expressed pride in his sister.

“You’re such an inspiration to the youth. You’ve achieved so much while staying true to your passion. I’m proud of you,” he said.

Gela, visibly moved, responded emotionally, “Kuya Arjo has always been my inspiration. His support keeps me going even during challenging times.”

She also shared her dream of performing with her brother onstage, adding, “I’m crossing my fingers that Kuya finds time to rehearse and join me in a dance number.”

Gela emphasized that Time to Dance is more than just a show—it’s a platform to support aspiring dancers and highlight their stories.

“I’ve seen dancers struggle to compete internationally due to financial challenges. This show is my way of giving back and inspiring others to pursue their dreams,” she said.

The show provides a behind-the-scenes look at the dancers’ sacrifices, struggles, and triumphs.

“We usually see dancers when they’re already champions. Here, we showcase their journey, and it’s deeply inspiring,” Gela added.

Despite her professional demeanor, Gela admitted her emotional attachment to the contestants.

“It’s hard not to get emotional when you see how much effort they put into their craft. Their passion reminds me of why I fell in love with dance,” she said.

Gela, who holds the title of New Gen Dance Champ, said she’s grateful for the recognition.

“Being a champion is about inspiring others. That’s what’s most important to me,” she said.

‘Time to Dance’ features a dynamic panel of judges and guest performers, including AC Bonifacio, Darren Espanto, Ken San Jose, and esteemed coaches Chips Beltran, Lema Diaz, and Jobel Dayrit. The show aims to highlight the vibrancy and talent within the Filipino dance community.

Catch ‘Time to Dance’ every Saturday on Kapamilya Channel, Kapamilya Online Live, A2Z, MYX, iWantTFC, and TFC. Witness an inspiring celebration of dance and passion as Gela Atayde takes the lead in this exciting new venture.
