“Kita Kita” is undeniably making waves.

A story of a pretty Filipina named Lea (Alessandra de Rossi) who is engaged to marry her Japanese fiance, was betrayed, went blind and was able to move on. Thanks to Tonyo (Empoy Marquez) who showed the wonder and romantic views of Sapporo, Japan despite her lack of sight. We learned that love needs no eyes to fully understand it.

This film, written and directed by Sigrid Andrea Bernardo, is without a doubt, not the typical rom-com.

Let us run through these seven meaningful lessons “Kita Kita” shared:

1. LOVING IS SUFFERING

Love is not about perfection; it is all about sacrifice and acceptance of the fact that it is hard to love. There should be commitment in your relationship as both of you should be brave and strong enough to fight and survive no matter what happens.

2. LOVE DENOTES ACCEPTANCE

Lea has been to a lot. The conflict of betrayal and the reality of death that pivoted in the story, one has to understand the figure of acceptance to strengthen emotions.

3. DO NOT MAKE DECISIONS IN THE MIDST OF HAPPINESS OR SADNESS

One of the messages of the film is the way people make decisions. You have to thinks ten times like what the characters did in the film. Doing otherwise, will lead you to  regrets and more disappointments.

4. LOVE WHEN YOU ARE READY TO GET HURT

Tonyo is an odd character yet he showed life’s simplicity. He reflects the imperfection of love and how it can also destroy you, ready or not. However, Tonyo epitomizes this generation’s hopeless romantics and the bravest who are ready to love even if it means they will get hurt.

5. BLIND OF HAPPINESS

Lea was blinded by the happiness she thought she had found from her Japanese boyfriend. That at first she finds it hard to see Tonyo’s efforts. It may sound cliche but the truth is, we will only see the value of a person once their gone.

6. LOVING IS A CHOICE

The movie basically teaches viewers that love is a choice and it matters a lot. We choose to create happiness regardless who we love.

7. BITTERSWEET

Life is not a fairytale. The movie opens our eyes to reality that loving is accompanied by suffering and regrets. Yet, in the end, we enjoy the little things in life. The movie is honest in a sense that it demystify love and romance and showed us what reality is.
