  • Pasig Councilor Vico Sotto shared dismay over CHR budget.
  • Vico Sotto thought of donating his salary to the CHR.

Pasig City councilor Vico Sotto has joined the roster of celebrities who voiced out opposition and dismay over the House of Representatives’ decision to give 1000 peso budget to the Commission on Human Rights.

In his tweets, the young Sotto shared how disappointed he is with the voting in Congress.

He said it seemed many are not aware of the value of the Commission on Human Rights and questioned the wisdom of Congress whom should know the basic tenets of the law and constitution.

“I think most people don’t understand the value of the CHR… PERO MGA CONGRESSMAN KAYO EH ANO BA ANG GUSTO NYONG MANGYARI SA BANSA NATIN,” Vico wrote.

Because of his disappointment, the Pasig City councilor offered to donate part of his monthly salary to fund the CHR. He said if the 1000 peso budget of the CHR became reality in 2018 he will donate percentage of his salary to the commission given the legality of doing so.

“In case this becomes a reality for 2018, I will donate a fixed % of my monthly salary to the CHR (assuming it’s legal for me to do so),” he tweeted.

Vico Sotto is the son of comedian Vic Sotto to actress-host Ms. Connie Reyes. He is the latest from the growing list of celebrities and politicians who voiced out concern and disagreement to the Congress’ decision. Dingdong Dantes, Bianca Gonzales, Karen Davila and Ethel Booba had also voiced out their sentiments regarding the matter

“So hindi maa-afford ng #CHR ang magbayad ng kuryente, tubig at internet ng isang buwan. AY. Wala din palang masweswelduhan ni isang staff.”

“Buti si Rep. Atienza of Buhay–among many others– voted against it. Ay teka, 32 nga lang pala sila.😬 How in the world can that be alright?”

“House budgets P1,000 or $20 a year for the Commission on Human Rights for 2018. What they want to say: Close it down.”

“Bullying at Power Trip ang ginagawa ng ibang nakaupo sa House of Representatives. Charot!”

Vico’s statement in effect contradicts the position of his uncle, Sen. Tito Sotto who said the CHR had it coming when it criticized President Duterte’s War on Drugs.
