The ten PBA teams are all set to beef up their line-ups and this year’s draft is considered as a bumper crop with a trio of giants led by Ateneo Blue Eagles center Greg Slaughter, San Sebastian forward Ian Sangalang and Letran’s Raymond Almazan.
The seven-foot Slaughter is expected to be picked by Barangay Ginebra San Miguel, which has the first over-all pick. It will be the first time in 17 years since the franchise drafted seven foot beanpole Marlou Aquino, hence the high hopes for the team’s potential championship comeback.
Picking second is San Mig Coffee Mixers, which is looking to fortify its frontline with the addition of all-around Ian Sangalang. Rain or Shine Elasto Painters is targeting Raymond Almazan, who is empowered with shotblocking prowess and good offensive skill in his arsenal.
Other amateur hopefuls who applied for the draft include FEU guards Terence Romeo and RR Garcia, Jeric Teng and Jeric Fortuna of UST, Anjo Caram of San Beda College, and James Forrester of Arellano University.
Opening on November 17, the PBA’s new season promises to be big spectacle with three games to be played in Manila, Cebu, and Davao. The 2013 PBA Rookie Draft is a production of Sports5.
