An all-original concept of the GMA Network, Kara Mia is set to conquer the hearts of every primetime television viewer. It features two of the hottest stars in the Showbiz, Barbie Fortaleza and Mika Dela Cruz. Forteza portrays the role of Kara, the kind-hearted girl who deeply cares for her sister; while Dela Cruz plays Mia, the face behind Kara’s head who has strong personality and is jealous over the former.
This Fantaserye hooked its viewers with engaging portrayals of how these two sisters with two different minds and two different traits but trapped in one body. It premiered on February 18, 2019.
Here are my top ten reasons why Kara Mia is a must-watch:
- It is inspired by true events
Yes, you heard it right. Kara Mia is based on a true story in India. The series followed the lives of two sisters with craniofacial duplication since birth, a congenital defect where they have two different faces in one body. This rare condition however, remains unexplained whether medical or mythical, up to this date.
- A new kind of social media trend.
Kara Mia’s trailer created abuzz in all social media platforms. Due to its oddity and unique storyline, the hashtag #KaraMia trended even before the show premiered. What a good start!
- Features a trove of strange mythical creature from Philippine folklore.
The show injected an interesting slant based from Philippine folklore. It is an authentic way to highlight engkanto legends and stories that allegedly live in rivers, by the trees and in the heart of a forest. This eventually paved way to a daughter with two faces as this engkanto fell in love with a mortal.
- Presents the Philippine’s rich and diverse culture.
Kara Mia has found a way to promote the Philippines and its tourist spots as it features different places in the Visayan region particularly Bacolod, the city of smiles. Much exposure of Negros and the local use of the dialect is already a great come-on.
- Challenging Roles.
Mika shared in one of her recent interviews, that her role is technically demanding. She had to undergo various technical snitches to portray her role as Mia so well. Plus, acting with her shoulders pushed back than the usual and that her actions have to be backwards is indeed challenging.
- Mika’s First Lead Role.

Starting up as a child actress, Dela Cruz gets her first-ever lead role in GMA-7. It was unexpected of the Network to take risk on her being one of the female leads, but this child actress proved a lot that she deserved the big break.
- Netizens’ conflicting feedback surfaced.
Netizens couldn’t help but to compare Kara Mia to one of Harry Potter’s characters, Lord Voldemort. The argument originated from a scene where Voldemort uses Professor Quirrell‘s aid to regain his body by latching onto the back of the latter’s head. This argument however, was dealt by the Network and reiterated that the show is based from a true story and it has nothing to do with any of Lord Voldemort’s shadow.
- ‘FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano’ VS. ‘Kara Mia’ on primetime.
Will Kara Mia be the best bet for FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano? We’ll see. The show is still new compared to the latter that has been consistent in garnering high ratings, but who knows? ‘Kara Mia’s’ new and refreshing concept might just be the key to match and upset the Coco Martin show.
- It’s Memes are out-of-this world so as the Show.

There are A LOT of Memes that circulated on social media and it helped the show’s publicity. It spread like a virus and the Netizens couldn’t help but like, share and comment on the bizarre memes.
- The writers did their research well.
The creative team surely did their assignments and research! The Hiligaynon accent is on point and the script cited facts of well-known places and figures!
Convinced? Watch ‘Kara Mia’ so you can come up with your own reasons.
