Therese Malvar, at a young age, has proven her excellence in the film industry as her performances brought recognition, both here and abroad.
She is one of the most sought-after young artists in the indie community and is slowly making a name in the mainstream industry, under the care of the GMA Network. It is obvious where she got her skills from, as she is the daughter of Cherry Malvar, a stage and indie film talent herself.
Her career grew more in the indie film industry where she won numerous awards. She started her indie film career in 2013. And at the young age of 13 years old, she won Best Actress at the 1st CineFilipino Film Festival 2013 for the movie ‘Ang Huling Cha-Cha ni Anita.’
Not only that, in 2015, she earned five awards from the film ‘Hamog’ as Best Actress at the Cinema One Originals 2015 filmfest, Screen International Rising Star Asia Award at the 15th New York Asian Film Festival, Outstanding Artistic Achievement Golden Goblet Award at the 2016 Shanghai International Festival, Silver St. George Best Actress at the 38th Moscow International Film Festival, and as 9th Ani ng Dangal Awardee.

Indeed, Therese is undeniably great in her art as an indie film actress. However, her career does not stop there for GMA Network is already shaping her skills and giving her a big break, as she was finally given a lead role in the drama series ‘Inagaw na Bituin,’ where she plays the character of Ariela Lopez, a conceited young singer, who develops a rivalry with another rising talent, Elsa (Kyline Alcantara). Before in television, Therese is mostly given supporting roles but finally, the Kapuso network is already rooting for her.
Aside from having a mother that is a great theater artist, she is also a descendant of Philippine national hero, Dr. Jose Rizal.
This was disclosed by GMA Artist Center when it posted in its Instagram account an update on the artist.

Accordingly, Therese is connected to the bloodline of our national hero, based on the genealogy book titled “Lolo Jose: An Intimate and Illustrated Portrait of Jose Rizal” that was written by Rizal’s grandniece, Asuncion Lopez Bantug, where it clearly shows that Therese is one of the descendants of Rizal.
This made many of her fans more amazed, indicating that the connection made more sense as to why she has been very great in her art.
