OPM artists Luke Mejares and Jinky Vidal sympathized with the judges of reality singing competition Idol Philippines. The show’s panel of judges composed of Moira Dela Torre, Vice Ganda, James Reid, and Regine Velasquez was recently criticized again for their choice of top 20 finalists.

In the past few weeks, several celebrities aired their disappointment with the show’s panel, particularly with Reid, Dela Torre, and Vice. Most believed that Asia’s Songbird Regine was the only “credible” judge on the panel.

After the rejection of reggae singer Luke Baylon, JK Labajo aired his sentiments on Twitter and called the judges “shameful.”

Former The Clash finalist and now Kapuso singer Jong Madaliday was also saddened for Baylon’s rejection saying that he deserved the “yeses” of the judges.

Even director and writer Joey Reyes suggested that Jed Madela, Gary Valenciano, and Morissette Amon should be “replacements,” for the singer-judges.

Another famous singer, Bituin Escalante, also aired a seemingly critical opinion towards the judges on Twitter saying that she would not pass their auditions.

However, Mejares explained that each of the judges has their own expertise for being part of the panel.

“Si Vice iba din yung pwede nyang gawin dun sa Idol Philippines eh. Si James Reid iba din talaga, pero may ilalatag sila sa table eh,” Mejares said during an interview of Mario Dumaual for TV Patrol on June 19.

Vidal also shared a message for the Idol Philippines judges.

“You cannot please everyone. Magpakatotoo ka lang sa sarili, basta alam mo yung ginagawa mo,” Vidal said.

The two OPM artists also asked viewers to support the all-original Filipino musical Rak of Aegis which is set to open at the PETA Theater Center in Quezon City on July 5 for its seventh season and other OPM shows in the month of July.
