What you see is what you get with Arjo Atayde and Maine Mendoza. With the two exclusively dating, their displays of affection and constant togetherness are giveaways that what they feel for each other is more than friendship.
And it seems that we already have the much-awaited confirmation about their relationship from Arjo’s mother, Sylvia Sanchez.
During an interview with Ricky Lo, Sanchez was asked about the real score between her son and Mendoza which she answered in a teasing manner.
“Para dalhin sa bahay at i-introduce sa pamilya namin at ipaglaban ang isa’t-isa, kailangan pa ba ng eksplanasyon niyan?” she stated.
The actress also shared when she first met Mendoza and how she liked the Kapuso actress.
According to Sanchez, she first met Mendoza on May 23, 2019, during a family dinner arranged by her son Arjo.
She described Mendoza as respectful, pleasant, and shy.
“She was respectful and pleasant na bata. Her first words were, ‘Hi po, tita!’ She seemed shy when Arjo introduced her to me. Ang lamig-lamig ng kamay niya,” she said.
Sanchez shared that all through the dinner, she felt light and comfortable with Mendoza. According to her, Mendoza appeared to them as a simple person, not as a celebrity with an army of fans.
“Hindi ko naramdaman na, ‘Hey, I am Maine Mendoza; sikat ako!’ Nothing like that,” she stated.
“She introduced herself as Nicomaine Mendoza, her real name, so it meant that she was there not as Maine Mendoza the star but Nicomaine Mendoza the private person.
“She was nice even to our kasambahay when Arjo introduced her to them,” she added.
Because of this, Sanchez was asked if she approves Mendoza as her son’s girlfriend t0 which she answered: “Kahit sino ang girlfriend ni Arjo, rich or poor, sikat man o hindi, I expect only one thing: that she should be respectful at mahal lahat ng pamilya namin.”
Before Arjo finally admitted that he was exclusively dating the Kapuso actress, the two of them were already seen together a few times.
Early this year, the actor revealed that he is exclusively dating Mendoza and they are happy with each other’s company. According to him, he is aware of the negative reaction of AlDub fans towards him for pursuing Mendoza but the actor is man enough to fight for their love no matter what it takes as long as his family and the love of his life aren’t involved.
Before Mendoza, Atayde was in a relationship with GirlTrends member Sammie Rimando. They met in 2016 and dated until 2018.
Mendoza, on the other hand, was part of the phenomenal love team “AlDub” with Alden Richards. There were speculations that they were more than a love team. However, this was cleared up by Mendoza in her open letter to fans where she admitted that she and Richards are ‘just friends’.
