Beauty queen Sophia Senoron finally had her dream come true as she now will be hosting GMA Network’s NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association) coverage, “Rise Up Stronger: The Road to NCAA Season 96.”
Senoron, who was a graduate of San Beda University, admitted that she was a sports fan herself.
“As a collegiate sports fan, I consider myself as an alumna of the NCAA,” said Senoron during the show’s virtual media launch, Tuesday, May 18.
In fact, during her stay in the university, she tried to apply as a courtside reporter for San Beda. Unfortunately, she was rejected not just twice but three times.
“I went to San Beda University and tried to be a courtside reporter. I tried 2 or 3 times I think and hindi ako nakuha. I was never approved to be the courtside reporter. And it broke my heart kasi I was only at the games,” said the beauty queen.
But her dream finally came true years later. She may not be a courtside reporter, but she definitely became a host of an NCAA show.
“Then lo and behold 2-3 years later, hindi ako nakuha na courtside reporter pero ako ang naging host ng NCAA,” she added.
It was indeed a blessing for Senoron. Since she knew to herself that she is nothing more but a sports fan. And when the beauty queen received the news that she will host “Rise Up Stronger: The Road to NCAA Season 96,” together with veteran sportscaster Martin Javier, it is a perfect match for a sports geek and sports fan to host such kind of show.
“Unang-una, nagsabay yung news na the NCAA would be with GMA and ako ang magiging host. So andami kong nararamdaman.
“Kasi obviously ako talaga yung isa sa mga sportsfan. Tagahanga lang ako ng mga athletes.
“Tapos nalaman ko na makakawork ko si Martin. Kasi I’ve known Martin for a while now. Kasi nakita ko siya sa game when I was still a student of San Beda. At nung nalaman ko na makakatrabaho ko siya, perfect kasi siya yung literal na sports geek,” she said.
The beauty queen also expressed her appreciation for her co-host. According to Senoron, Javier can do the things that she cannot do as a host.
“Lahat nang di ko kayang gawin, kayang-kayang gawin ni Martin. I love being his partner. Kasi he helps me in the same way na I want to help the show as much as possible,” shared Senoron.
“I want to give the show everything that I can offer. Tapos kapag may nakita si Martin that can be better, he helps me as well. So I love that about our working chemistry,” she added.
“Rise Up Stronger: The Road to NCAA Season 96” will start on May 23 and is available on GNTV.
