On November 22, artist Luis Hontiveros revealed why he didn’t do sexy roles when he started showbiz.
During the media conference for the Vivamax movie Palitan, Hontiveros said he wasn’t ready to take on sexy roles when he began his career.
“It’s God’s timing na lang din. I think I wasn’t ready yet before noong mga panahon na nagkakilala tayo, nagsisimula ako sa industriya. I wasn’t confident enough with my craft.
“To be honest, noong pagpasok ko ng showbiz dahil nagsimula nga ako sa reality show, tapos paglabas ko hindi ko pa alam kung saan ako mapupunta dahil hindi ako marunong kumanta, sumayaw, o umarte during that time.”
However, he clarified that he has been working to improve his acting career.
“Inaral ko lang talaga ‘yung pag-arte and dumating na lang sa isang punto ng karera ko na may naka-eksena akong veteran actress, tapos doon ko naramdaman ‘yung experience ng tunay na pag-arte tapos doon na ako na-fall inlove sa pag arte.
“I’ve been really studying the craft, honing my craft, kasi sabi ko ayaw kong sumabak sa giyera ng wala akong bala. Ayaw kong makilala na–parang for me, iba ‘yung definition ng celebrity at actor. I really define it differently, gusto ko makilala ako bilang actor. Gusto ko makakuha ako ng respeto bilang actor.”
He then recalled actors such as Jake Cuenca and Yayo Agila, who contributed to his newfound passion for acting.
“Isa na doon si–like si Jake Cuenca. He was a very generous friend, and as an actor, talagang nag-meet up pa kami sa labas, sa Rockwell that time, tapos we sat down, had a couple of drinks, while he was helping me dissect my character.
“Tapos ang naka-eksena ko sa kontrabida role na ‘yun na na-feel ko talaga na ito ‘yung acting was with ate Yayo Agila. Talagang iba ‘yung bigay doon sa eksena na ‘yun.”
Hontiveros started his showbiz career when he joined the Kapamilya reality show Pinoy Big Brother: Lucky 7 in 2016.
Now, Hontiveros stars alongside new Viva artists Cara Gonzales, Rash Flores, and Jela Cuenca in ‘Palitan.’ The movie directed by Brillante Mendoza, streams on Vivamax on December 10, 2021.
