Why You Should See It:
Beauty queens Maxine Media (Bb. Pilipinas Universe 2016), and Casie Banks (Miss World Philippines 2019 2nd Princess) are bitter carinderia rivals in this new installment of Regal Studio Presents. In this episode, the Medina and Banks are eatery owners who always try to outsmart each other by cooking the better dish and getting more customers. Medina plays Dayanara, while Banks plays Sushimita.
Their rivalry gets even more intense with the arrival of Dante, a mysterious tricycle driver who becomes their regular customer. To settle their long-standing dispute, they agreed to battle it out in winning Dante’s heart. The one who loses shall vacate her stall and transfer her carinderia to another place.
Aside from Dante, Casie and Maxine are also vying for the loyalty of another customer, Mr. Kwan (Inocencio). The businessman is known as the owner of various rental spaces in their area. Unbeknownst to Casie and Maxine, the old man is involved in a shady business. It also becomes apparent that Dante isn’t the person he projects to be. His link to Mr. Kwan is set to shock the two carinderia owners, who are both after his affection.
Battle of Karinderya Queens differs from the past episodes because it is more a comedy than a romance or romcom. The script revolves around Sushimita and Dayanara’s petty war, but the proceedings are inherently comic and are grounded on sending good vibes and making viewers laugh. While Banks and Medina’s small-time eatery owners do not feel authentic at all. However, given their speaking accents and poise, they make Sushimita and Dayanara lovable characters who are both worthy of rooting for.
The episode also succeeds at getting a strong point across: it’s always wiser to be friends than be enemies in business or life in general. Sushi at Yara is able to realize their faults and decide to work harmoniously, in the end, for the betterment of both their lives and their business ventures.
