The fans of Kathryn Bernardo, seemingly took offense at how the Kapamilya actress got to be [seemingly] discredited in Hello Love, Goodbye’s phenomenal box office success.
KathNiel fans did not take lightly Paolo Contis’s recent interview with Alden Richards, which was uploaded on Wednesday, January 25, on GMA Sparkle’s YouTube channel.
In the said interview, Contis and Richards talked of the latter’s showbiz journey, including the Star Cinema film, Hello Love, Goodbye, which Richards described as his very “first venture” outside his home Network.
“Yung number one movie ng Star Cinema at ng ABS-CBN, taga-GMA ang artista,” said Contis, to which Richards replied with, “… sarap sa ears.”
“Hindi…(that’s a) fact! Of course, we have Kathryn, the biggest star of ABS-CBN, but we also have the big star of GMA. Anong feeling?” Contis asked Richards.
“Di naging madali ‘yan kasi—it was my first venture outside GMA, to be part of a production with another network. Ako lang ‘yung artista na taga-GMA, and Lovely (Abella). Hindi ko naramdamang iba ako sa set, hindi ako welcome,” Richards shared.
Such an exchange of words between Contis and Richards, however, did not sit well, with many of Kapamilya fans, particularly of Kathryn, who find Contis’s statement to be very disrespectful of Bernardo, who they claim to be the biggest driver behind the movie’s box office performance. Rubbing salt into the wound, was a tweet from an avid Kapuso supporter who attached a clip from Contis’s interview.
“Hoy Paolo Contis spitting FACTS ONLY!!.Ang Number 1 Movie ng ABS CBN at Star Cinema ay taga GMA ang artista. Oh wag nyo ko aawayin ha si Paolo nagsabe nyan,” he tweeted, echoing Contis’s words.
Now with over 2 million views, the tweet attracted mostly KathNiel fans, who refuted the claim.
Twitter user, @AltCristyFermin, countered with a tweet which he attached with a clip, where Richards is shown getting emotional as he thanked Star Cinema and Cathy Carcia-Molina, for tapping him to be part of the project.
“Halos na iyak na nga si Alden dito oh hahaha . Kasi naman tumanda na sa gma hindi nabigyan ng Box office,” his tweet reads.
Richards notably had a few box office hits, but the success of Hello Love, Goodbye was unprecedented, let alone, phenomenal.

Blogger and content creator, Rod Magaru, took a swipe at Contis by tweeting one of Bernard’s interviews, where she emotionally revealed her struggles while filming her scenes in the movie.
“Hi Paolo Contis yung number wan movie, ng Star Cinema at ABSCBN, si Kathryn Bernardo buong nagdala. Yan ang sarap sa ears,” his caption reads.

Bela chose to remind Contis and other Kapuso fans, of Bernardo’s other box office feats, including 2018’s The Hows of Us, which, like her movie with Richards, also became the highest-grossing Filipino film of all time.
“Fact: Kathryn Bernardo films aside from Hello Love Goodbye including Pagpag and other films are all box office while Alden Richards cant find any under 100M mark. Lucky Alden experience box office movie all because of Kathryn Bernardo, Direk Cathy, and Star Cinema,” she tweeted.

“kathryn bernardo isn’t called “box office queen and asia’s superstar” for no reason. she carried the WHOLE movie so stop discrediting her,” pleaded @lauveleemark.

Hello Love, Goodbye remains the highest-grossing local movie of all time and may likely remain so as the local film industry still struggles to return to its pre-pandemic glory. Contis and Richards are yet to comment on the issue.
