On May 11, former Pinoy Big Brother housemate Rico Barrera recalled his realization that he needed to reinvent himself when he accepted the sexy role in Kabayo.
At the media conference for his upcoming Vivamax film, Kabayo, which LionhearTV covered, Barrera said he didn’t regret taking on the role in Kabayo since he wanted to ‘repackage’ his image.
“Pero, wala namang halong pag-sisi kasi sabi ko nga sa sarili ko na it’s time naman to repackage myself, it’s time to explore, it’s time for a new beginning naman.
“Kung mayroon akong new look, sabi ko gamitin ko. Kung ano pa ‘yung mayroon ako ngayon, sa tingin ng ibang tao, magiging productive ako, so why not, kasi bilang artista, negosyo mo din ‘yung itsura mo, ‘yung katawan mo, ‘yung talento mo, ‘yung skills mo, and by that time, noong binabasa ko siya, so napili ako doon sa role, siguro kailangan ko lang huminga by that time at i-absorb ko ‘yung mga mangyayari.”
Despite the realization, he confessed to feeling nervous when he read the script for the Vivamax film.
“Eh ako naman, ewan ko ba, sa tanda kong ito, may pagka, mahiyain akong sumagot doon. So it translate doon sa script na napalunok ako kasi medyo magiging intimate, and magiging extreme sa lahat ng mga pinag-ganapan ko.”
However, he noted feeling excited about the upcoming release of his sexy movie.
“Like few months ago mayroon naman, pero this one is more deeper and there’s so many art in here. Kaya even me, I’m very excited kung ano ‘yung na-execute namin nila Direk. And ayun looking forward talaga ako, medyo may excitement, kinakabahan, and medyo naging game talaga ako dito.”
As for his showbiz journey, Barrera gained popularity after joining Pinoy Big Brother in 2005.
Before entering showbiz, he took on modeling and participated in bikini contests.
After his stint in PBB, he became a host in ASAP Fanatics and appeared in Kapamilya teleseryes. He then moved to GMA Network later on.
However, in 2009, Barrera decided to pursue a career as a flight attendant up to 2013. During this time of his life, he joined Frontrow and became their first millionaire.
Thanks to the financial boost he got from Frontrow, he began his business and vlog involving automobiles.
As for his upcoming film, Kabayo stars Barrera and the Viva artist Julia Victoria.
The cast also features Apple Castro, Mara Flores, Angelo Ilagan, and Ping Medina.
Under the direction of Morciano, Kabayo streams on Vivamax starting May 26.
