In a moving testament to resilience, faith, and familial love, Dr. Ina Desiree L. Mamauag of the Our Lady of Fatima University (OLFU) College of Medicine rose above grief to claim the 10th spot in the March 2025 Physicians Licensure Examination, scoring an impressive 85.50 percent.
Her achievement comes just nine days after experiencing a profound personal tragedy—the loss of her father, the very person who inspired her to pursue medicine.
In a heartfelt Facebook post that has since gone viral, garnering over 33,000 reactions as of this writing, Dr. Mamauag recounted the night she received the devastating news. While reviewing pathology cases in preparation for the licensure exam, she prayed for the healing of her parents, unaware that her father was, at that very moment, battling a heart attack. “I knew right then that life would never be the same,” she wrote.
Overwhelmed with grief and contemplating withdrawing from the exam, she was reminded of her father’s unwavering belief in her, especially through their final conversations where he expressed confidence that she would not only pass but top the board exam.
“I am my Papa’s daughter. I am fueled by his unwavering love, support, and guidance,” Dr. Mamauag declared. Despite unfinished review materials and emotional turmoil, she summoned the strength to take the examination, ultimately achieving what she and her father had long dreamed of.
Her accomplishment adds to the rich tradition of excellence at OLFU, becoming the 129th topnotcher from the esteemed College of Medicine. She follows the path of Fatimanian alumna, Dr. Monina Mica Castillo, who previously placed 9th in the October 2021 PLE.
In its official statement on April 15, OLFU lauded Dr. Mamauag’s courage and spirit, calling her story a “testament to faith, family, and the unbreakable spirit of a Fatimanian.” The university also celebrated the success of its 227 newly licensed physicians.
As the Professional Regulation Commission announced, 1,901 out of 3,827 examinees passed this year’s licensure examination, with the date and venue for the oathtaking ceremony to follow.
Dr. Mamauag’s story resonates beyond academic triumph; it is a powerful reminder that amid life’s trials, faith and love remain steadfast sources of strength.
