Ratings favor Kapuso in Mega Manila

GMA Network has claimed Mega Manila and parts of Luzon as its turf, and for the last decade or so, is the network of choice among TV households in the area.

Last Sunday, there is no doubt that it again thrashed competition from 10 a.m. onwards as everyone wanted to know the outcome of the fight between Manny Pacquiao and his Mexican opponent, Antonio Margarito.

I don’t have the figures yet, but on occasions like last Sunday’s boxing bout, the Kapuso network always emerges the winner, and even in the traditionally Kapamilya areas, the Kapuso leads by several rating points.

In the news department, 24 Oras is slowly gaining ground in other areas outside the Mega Manila survey area.

Consistently rating higher than competing programs on its time slot, GMA Network’s flagship primetime newscast 24 Oras maintains its lead from Nov. 8 to 11 based on Mega Manila overnight people ratings data from the more widely recognized TV ratings service, Nielsen TV Audience Measurement.

Despite the changes in the roster of news readers in ABS-CBN’s TV Patrol and the hype surrounding TV 5’s new show Willing Willie, viewers clearly preferred 24 Oras, which is anchored by Mike Enriquez and Mel Tiangco.

The Nov. 8 ratings data show GMA-7’s primetime newscast, with its 11.6 rating points, outclassing ABS-CBN’s TV Patrol, 10.7. During the time slot it aired alongside newscasts 24 Oras and TV Patrol, TV-5’s Willing-Willie only managed 10.3 (overlap with 24 Oras).

The newscast continued its dominance on Tuesday, Nov. 9, as it pulled ahead with 11.9 rating points against TV Patrol’s 9.5. During the time slot it aired alongside the two newscasts, Willing Willie had 10.2 rating points (overlap with 24 Oras).

The following day, Wednesday, Nov. 10, 24 Oras’ 11.7 rating points still led TV Patrol’s 9.8. Willing Willie only got 10.2 rating points (overlap with 24 Oras).

By Nov. 11, 24 Oras posted 12.8 rating points as against TV Patrol’s 9.9., Willing Willie only managed 11 rating points (overlap with 24 Oras).

The Nov. 8 to 11 ratings data clearly show the viewers’ support and preference for 24 Oras. “We are honored and inspired by the viewers’ trust in our news programs. Our news organization will continue to do our best in fulfilling our mission to deliver Serbisyong Totoo,” shares Marissa L. Flores, GMA Senior vice president for News and Public Affairs
