  • Nadine Lustre won Best Actress at the 67th FAMAS Awards for the movie ‘Never Not Love You’
  • Few years ago, Nadine Lustre admitted struggling from depression
  • She was not spared for criticism and issues, most specially about her attitude problem

In a press conference last Friday (May 3), Kapamilya actress Nadine Lustre extended her gratitude for winning the Best Actress award during the 67th FAMAS Awards for the movie ‘Never Not Love You,’ that was directed by Antoinette Jadaone.

Last March, she also bagged the ‘Best Performance Award” from the Young Critics Circle Film Desk (YCC-FD) for the same movie.

The 25-year-old actress recently starred in the movie ‘Ulan,’ with Carlo Aquino, that was directed by Irene Villamor.

“Hindi po talaga ako nagi-expect na mananalo ako dahil pawang mabibigat at magagaling ang mga co-nominees ko (Judy Ann Santos, Sarah Geronimo, Anne Curtis, Glaiza de Castro),” said Nadine.

“To be nominated alone ay isa na pong malaking karangalan para sa akin. Sobra po talaga akong nagulat nang tawagin ang name ko. I was stunned and overwhelmed at nanginginig po ako when I accepted the award. Hindi po ako sanay na magsalita sa harap ng maraming tao,” she revealed.

Despite the success of her career, she was not spared for criticism and issues, most specially about her attitude problem.

She encountered a lot of controversies since the airing of the movie ‘Till I met You’ in 2016. An extra from the movie, named Joed Medina, claimed that Nadine’s attitude is different on-cam and off-cam. Since then, she was constantly criticized by the public.

Last year, a video showing Nadine ‘pushing’ a fan girl away from his boyfriend ,James Reid, have gone viral and made her even more controversial.

In the same press conference, she admitted that she has social anxiety and is experiencing panic attacks, leading her to display mood swings since she was young. She was often misunderstood by others for having an attitude problem, but she was thankful to her boyfriend, Reid, for understanding her situation.

“Even until now, I still get panic or anxiety attacks. Kakausapin ko lang si James, siya po kasi yung biggest safety blanket (ko). So, kakausapin ko lang po siya, sasabihin ko sa kanya kung ano ang nararamdaman ko. But there are also times na bigla na lang akong kakabahan, hindi ko po alam kung ano yung reason kung bakit bigla akong nada-down and all. As much as possible, I try to surround myself with people who support me and show so much love and care. I just communicate a lot kasi, when I was younger, that’s what I learned,” she said.

The actress tried to seek for professional help but she doesn’t want to be dependent of it.

She also shared her experience of having depression prior to his brother’s death in 2017. She revealed that she managed to overcome her insecurities and depression by appreciating the things she has in life and by opening up her feelings to her loved ones, including James Reid.

“He is the most patient, understanding, supportive, and loving person I’ve ever known,” described Nadine.

Lustre said that she is now more relaxed and has learned not to stress about things.

Nadine Lustre and Sam Concepcion are currently preparing for the movie ‘Indak,’ a dance-heavy movie directed by Paul Basinillo and will also have guest role for James Reid’s upcoming movie ‘Pedro Penduko,’ portraying the role of ‘Maria Makiling.’
