Carla Abellana disagrees with the idea of the Philippines’ low COVID-19 financial assistance is due to being a Third World Country

Compared to other countries, our country’s COVID-19 stimulus package is considerably low. Actress Carla Abellana expressed her dismay over the comparison, which exposed that our country has given insufficient COVID-19 stimulus package to the people amid the pandemic.

A comparison of the financial response to the COVID-19 pandemic as a share of GDP was conducted among several countries.

It showed that Japan and South Korea allocated ₱44,643.08 and ₱39,400.15 per household, respectively.

The USA gave out ₱57,963 per family.

Strikingly, United Kingdom lends ₱16,895.36 per person every month.

These values are extremely far compared to the Philippines’ allocation, which is ₱4,000 only.

A Netizen then pointed out that the Philippines is a third-world country so, we should not expect much in terms of financial help.

“Financial aid, wag ikumpara World Bank loans, Third World VS First World, GDP, billions of dollars, in cash and in-kind, 4Ps, Bayanihan 1 & 2, stimulus package,” the Netizen pointed out.

However, Carla is discontented.

“So okay lang po yun sa inyo? Hahayaan nalang ba natin na hanggang ganun nalang yan? Kasi third world country po tayo?” Carla inquired.

“I guess so,” the Netizen replied.

The comparison allowed us to realize that the Philippine government gives less attention to assisting citizens who are greatly affected by the pandemic. There is also no free testing, massive contact-tracing, and the vaccine supply is insufficient.

As of January 2021, the total national debt of the country hits P10.33 trillion. Despite this soaring amount of debt, the nation is still losing its battle against COVID-19 as the rising cases have become uncontrollably high, recently.

On Monday, the Philippines have exceeded one million total COVID-19 cases of which 74,623 are active.
