On May 3, Kapuso journalist Emil Sumangil revealed he got offers to enter local politics.
At the media conference for his upcoming Kapuso program, ‘Resibo: Walang Lusot ang May Atraso’, which LionhearTV covered, Sumangil explained that while he received an offer for a spot in Pasig City’s local politics, he preferred to decline it.
“Marami po na sa local po, sa local politics sa amin sa Pasig, marami pong nag-aalok, pero ang sabi ko sa totoo lang, with all humility, hindi po ako–wala po akong balak na pumasok sa pulitika. Napaka saya ko po dito, napakasaya ko po dito sa ginagawa kong ito, at sa grasya na ito na aking tinatanggap.”
Earlier, he compared journalism to a religious vocation, focusing on public service.
He also shared his advice for aspiring broadcast journalists, reminding them that the profession lacks materialistic rewards. He pointed out, “Kung ang klase ng propesyon na ito ay inaakala ninyong para kayo ay maging sikat, para makuha ninyo ang ambisyon na materyal na bagay, mukhang hindi po ito ang tamang propesyon para sa inyo. Pure public service po ito, lalo po ngayon, mas lalong kailangan na kailangan po natin ng mga instrumento gaya nito.”
