To keep Filipinos updated on the latest updates and trends in social media, ANC will launch the country’s first-of-its kind social media news program, “@ANCALERTS” to be anchored by TJ Manotoc and Lexi Schulze starting Monday (June 11) at 4:30 p.m.
“@ANCALERTS,” which started as the news channel’s Twitter account that now has 450,000 followers, will present the latest issues netizens are discussing online, user-generated content, “Bayan Mo, iPatrol Mo” stories, and real time feedback from ANC viewers. @ANCALERTS is also the most influential Twitter account among all TV news channels in the country according to Twitter Grader (www.tweet.grader.com), a site that measures the power, authority, and reach of Twitter profiles.
A broadcast journalist with more than a decade of experience, Manotoc has a solid online presence with over 128,000 followers on his Twitter account and the highest Filipino journalist on Twitter Grader’s “Twitter Elite” users, ranking ninth on its top users list in the Philippines after the country’s news organizations. He has reported on issues in social media, technology, and citizen journalism and also anchors ANC’s longest-running newscast “Dateline Philippines.”
Manotoc said the creation of “@ANCALERTS” shows just how significant social media has become to Filipinos. “I’m very excited that we are enhancing the relationship of traditional media with social media. It’s high time we did something like this because hour by hour, something new comes up and is being talked about online,” said TJ, who will be anchoring the newscast next week in the United States via livestreaming while he is covering the NBA.
Schulze, on the other hand, served as host of ANC’s lifestyle program “Cityscape” and now delivers the latest buzz on the Internet the social media anchor in ANC’s afternoon newscast “News Now.”
“What I like about social media is that the viewers get to be a part of the news. I hope I get to be a great mediator between them and the celebrities and politicians who are guests on the show,” Lexi said.
“@ANCALERTS” will kick off ANC’s new programming this June as the country’s most trusted news channel brings more premium content to its viewers.
