2015 Miss Universe Pia Wurtzbach, on Monday, February 14, admitted that she never had any second thoughts about accepting a surprising lead role in the upcoming Kapamilya sitcom My Papa Pi.
She will star alongside Ultimate Heartthrob Piolo Pascual and actor Pepe Herrera.
Upon hearing that she will be working with them along with a great director in Cathy Garcia-Molina, Wurtzbach immediately grabbed the opportunity.
“S’yempre po noong nalaman ko na makasama ko, [na] I’ll have the opportunity to work with Direk Cathy again and Papa P, and Papa Pe, na nag-yes ako right away. As in yung araw na yon na tinanong sa akin, na umupo ako tapos may mga inusog na akong dapat na work, minove ko nang ibang araw, na nag-make way ako para magawa ko siya,” she said during the show’s virtual media conference.
It was a “once-in-a-lifetime” chance, and the beauty queen-turned actress wanted to grab it.
“Kasi parang kelan ba mangyayari ‘to na matatawagan ka tapos you know, mapipili ka to work with them on a sitcom,” pointed the former beauty queen.
The project was also suitable for her, given that it is a light show. She said it is also the perfect way to make her return to acting.
“Tapos ang perfect pa nang project para sa’kin, sa’kin lang personally kasi mailalabas ko yung kulit ko tapos hindi rin ako mape-pressure sa iyakan. So parang it’s a great way to comeback. Because the last time I did TV was bago pa ako mag Binibini, bago pa ako mag pageants, yung last na role ko jellyfish sa Aryana.”
She was the replacement for Angelica Panganiban, who was supposed to be Pascual’s leading lady in the sitcom.
However, Wurtzbach never intimidated her cast members even though she came to the set on short notice.
“Very welcoming sila and nagse-share sila, very generous din sila sa knowledge nila. Gina-guide nila ako kung meron akong p’wedeng ma-improve pa, pati si Direk Cathy na rin. Actually sobrang welcoming nang vibe dito at nagtutulungan talaga. Kasi we aim to make every scene shine,” she explained.
ABS-CBN will have My Papa Pi premiere in March 2022.
