Controversial director Darryl Yap revealed that he may reunite with Sharon Cuneta in a possible new film project following their collaboration in the 2021 Viva comedy-drama Revirginized.

During the press conference for his directorial comeback film Love, Ngo on Thursday, Yap shared with entertainment editors that Sharon may eventually headline his project titled ‘Mamafia,’ which he previously pitched to Vilma Santos and Maricel Soriano.
As the title suggests, the movie revolves around a mother involved in a mafia.
“I’m not sure pero I think we plan for a ‘Revirginized 2’ and I offered Shawie din a script that is titled ‘Mamafia.’ That’s what I know. It was also offered to Governor Vilma. We had an initial meeting in 2023, and with Miss Marya. Hindi ko na lang po alam kung sino ang nag-go. But I pitched it with them. I’m not sure lang if the schedule permits,” Yap said.
According to the director, the project initially seemed likely to go to Vilma Santos, but health concerns became a factor because of the physically demanding nature of the film.
“That’s what I know,” he continued. “The film kasi is very rigorous to shoot, it’s mafia-mafia. Same goes with Miss Mary, na hindi makatakbo and all. So I guess kay Shawie, eh. Pero meron din po akong pinitch sa kanila. Si Boss Vic pini-pitch niya ako sa showbiz para iwas sa politics.”
Aside from his drama and comedy projects, Yap also revealed that he requested permission from Viva boss Vic del Rosario to direct a horror movie.
“They said yes,” the director happily shared.
If realized, the project would mark Yap’s first full horror film.
“Cultural horror movie” ang tawag ni Direk Darryl dito.
He also emphasized that the movie would be completely serious and without comedic elements.
“Seryoso, walang halo ni katiting man na comedy,” he said.
Yap jokingly added that he expects strong reactions once the horror film eventually reaches theaters.
“Palagay daw niya, marami na naman ang magagalit sa kanya’t magre-react oras na maipalabas ito sa mga sinehan.”
Currently, Yap is busy promoting ‘Love, Ngo’ starring Jerald Napoles.
The film follows Ngongo, a hardworking young man who volunteers at a cleft lip and palate foundation while helping at his mother’s burger stand. The story explores his struggles with love, family, and self-acceptance after falling for a woman whose family disapproves of his condition and social status.
Also part of the cast are social media personalities Malupiton and Jack Argota. The film opens in Philippine cinemas on June 3.
