On January 12, Kapuso star Elijah Alejo recounted her encounter with fake news because of her Kontrabida role in her previous teleserye, Primadonnas.
At the media conference for Underage, which LionhearTV covered, Alejo revealed she became a victim of social media bullying because of fake news.
“Ayan, actually naging victim din po ako ng social media bullying because of a fake news na ginawa lang po ng taong nagalit sa character ko sa Primadonnas which is si Brianna.”
She then shared her advice about handling fake news as a public figure.
“And actually hayaan ninyo sila, kasi they don’t know you naman eh. Hindi ka naman nila nakakasama palagi, nakakausap palagi, di nila alam ‘yung ugali mo and ija-judge ka nila because of a certain video, of a certain photo na nakita nila, and hayaan mo.
“Just pray to God, and makipag-usap ka sa friends mo if di mo na kaya, and kagaya nga ng theme song namin, huwag kang matakot umiyak.”
She then detailed the nature of the fake news, claiming that she made a negative comment against the president at the time.
“Umabot po ako sa point na ayaw ko na pong lumabas kasi sobrang nagalit po sa akin ‘yung mga tao noon, kasi po ang lumabas na sinabi ko raw is, huwag daw maniwala sa Presidente, ganon, something like that, so it’s against the President.
“Eh ako po mismo, hindi ko po ‘yun magagawa kasi nire-respeto ko rin po ang Presidente natin, so ayun po, hindi na po ako lumalabas ng bahay, kahit po sa mall hindi na po, tapos kahit sa taping, hindi na po ako makausap nila Jill. Kumbaga po parang nagpapaka-ano na lang po ako, nagpapaka-jolly na lang po ako pero super bothered po talaga ako.
“And minemessage na po ako ng mga friends ko na, ‘Hala, talaga bang sinabi mo ba ‘yun?’ So ayun po, grabe po talagang ginagawa ko po ‘yun, but ayun po, ginawa ko lang po noon umiyak ako, then hindi ko na po siya masyadong inintindi, kasi nag-explain naman na po ako, na hindi po ako ang may sabi nito. So wag po sana kayo maniwala, so bahala na po ‘yung mga tao if gusto nilang maniwala sa akin or not.”

Underage, directed by Rechie del Carmen, will premiere on January 16 on GMA Afternoon Prime.
