‘I ask for kindness please.’ Broadway singer Lea Salonga reacts on ABS-CBN franchise denial

Broadway actress Lea Salonga took to Twitter shortly after the unfortunate demise of ABS-CBN’s franchise renewal.

According to Salonga, even though she can’t control what has happened, she can control how she will react, “We can’t always control what happens around us, but we can control how we react. For myself, I choose optimism rather than vengeance and hate.”

We can’t always control what happens around us, but we can control how we react. For myself, I choose optimism rather than vengeance and hate. In every crisis, there is opportunity. We need to take the time to figure out what that’ll be. Tomorrow is another day. Must create.

She believes that what has happened to the network, there will always be an opportunity out of it.

“In every crisis, there is opportunity. We need to take the time to figure out what that’ll be. Tomorrow is another day. Must create.”

Following her tweet, she did not deny that she was saddened by the House Panel’s decision on ABS-CBN and called for empathy for the people that will be most affected by this saddening decision.

“But not gonna lie….. sat at my kitchen table in stunned silence for much of the day trying to make sense of things… I ask for kindness please, not for myself, but for everyone else hurting today. Sigh… paano ba ‘to…”

Lately, Salonga went viral for her bold statements, where she vented out her frustrations with what’s currently happening in the country.

In her now-deleted Facebook post, Lea cursed,  “Dear Pilipinas, p***** ina, ang hirap mong mahalin.”

This even caught the attention of former Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile who called the singer’s actions as ‘bastos’.

“Bastos, napakabastos. Ano namang malay ng Lea na yun ang alam niya eh kumanta lang.”

But in a Tweet, Lea made some clarification about her viral message.

According to the singer, while she stands by every word she wrote, she wanted to explain what many had misunderstood, that she was cursing as an expression, and that it was not aimed at anyone or the country.

Hi, gang. It seems a recent Facebook post of mine has gotten quite a bit of attention and launched all sorts of… I don’t even know what word to use, so I thought to use this platform and this space to offer some clarification in the hope that I’m more clearly understood. 1/

She said she didn’t and will never curse the Philippines that she loved and respected dearly.

Regarding the post itself, yes I stand by every single word I wrote as an expression of my frustration with certain events currently taking place in our country. However, contrary to what some of you might believe, I never, NOT EVER, cursed the Philippines. 2/
