Popstar Royalty Sarah Geronimo, Teen King Daniel Padilla, and Phenomenal Star Vice Ganda were greeted by deafening shrieks of diehard fans who celebrated their victory at the recent MOR Pinoy Music Awards staged by ABS-CBN’s official FM station My Only Radio (MOR) 101.9 For Life!

Thousands of Kapamilya fans were unfazed by the heavy rains and trooped to Mall of Asia Arena to witness their idols receive their much-coveted MOR trophies. Sarah was named Female Artist of the Year, while Daniel and Vice won in two other categories.

Daniel bagged the Male Artist of the Year award and Album of the Year for his album DJP, while Vice won the Phenomenal Artist of the Year award and Best Novelty Song for his hit song “Manhid Ka.”

But what turned the Arena into a mosh pit of overly thrilled Kapamilya fans was the moment when the lead stars of “She’s Dating The Gangster,” Daniel and Kathryn Bernardo appeared on stage and sang “Grow Old With You.”

In the annual awards night that honors the greatness of original Pilipino music (OPM), which also kicked off the grand celebration of MOR’s first anniversary, veteran singer-songwriter Ogie Alcasid was honored with the MOR OPM Achievement Award for his contribution to the OPM industry and for being a true champion of Filipino music for more than two decades.

In the song categories, Yeng Constantino’s “Chinito” was recognized as Song of the Year; Toni Gonzaga’s “Kahit Na” as Dance Hit of the Year; Jovit Baldivino’s “Pusong Bato” as Best OPM Revival; Sam Concepcion, Tippy Dos Santos, and Quest’s “Dati” as Best Collaboration of the Year; Kyle Wong and Martina San Diego’s “Balay ni Mayang” as Best Regional Song; and Companero Brandy’s radio jingle as the Best Kantamercial.

Also included in the list of awardees are Parokya ni Edgar as MOR Rock Icon, Jireh Lim as Breakthrough Artist of the Year, and Garth Garcia as Best New Artist.

Among the performers who filled the night with music and fun were some of the brightest OPM stars, namely, Vice, Yeng, Sam, and Parokya ni Edgar. Special musical numbers were also rendered by Abra, KZ Tandingan, Eurika, Martina, Kyle, Janice Javier, Liezel Garcia, Klarisse de Guzman, Morisette Amon, Darryl Shy, and Bassilyo.

A special musical tribute was also given to Ogie as Jovit, Bugoy Drilon, Edward Benosa, and Christian Bautista sang his all-time hit songs.

Aside from the singers and other Kapamilya stars, the awards night also featured the MOR team led by Star Music head Roxy Liquigan, MOR officer-in-charge Mars Ocampo, and all MOR DJs.
